How We Diagnose Podiatric Conditions at MROrthopedics

Our podiatrists are experts in diagnosing and treating both everyday and complex foot and ankle conditions. From chronic heel pain to sudden injuries, we’re here to help you understand what’s going on and get you on the right path to recovery. Here’s what you can expect during the diagnostic process:

  • Medical History & Symptom Review: This gives us an understanding of your health background and current concerns.
  • Physical Exam: During the exam, your provider will check for swelling, tenderness, pressure points, range of motion, and how you walk.
  • On-Site Imaging: X-rays are often done right away, as most of our clinics have this equipment available. If a deeper tissue injury is suspected, we may recommend an MRI or ultrasound.
  • Footwear & Walking Assessment: For ongoing issues, we may look at how your shoes fit or how your stride impacts your feet.

In most cases, your diagnosis can be completed in one visit, without sending you to multiple clinics.

Podiatry Treatments and Procedures for Lasting Relief

When foot or ankle pain starts interfering with your daily life, you want relief that’s both effective and tailored to your needs. At MROrthopedics, most conditions can be treated without surgery, and we always begin with the most conservative options first. When advanced procedures are needed, our podiatry team is here to guide you through every step with expertise and compassion.

Our foot and ankle treatments are designed to do more than just ease pain; they’re aimed at restoring mobility, supporting healing, and preventing future problems so you can stay active and confident:

Conservative Care & Pain Relief

  • Our podiatrists provide custom orthotics and shoe inserts for support, steroid injections to ease inflammation, and splinting or bracing for stability.
  • When needed, we recommend physical therapy to help boost strength, restore mobility, and reduce the risk of future foot and ankle problems.

Injury & Structural Support

  • For foot and ankle injuries, we deliver targeted support to promote healing and restore mobility.
  • Treatments may include casting or protective boots for fractures, guidance for tendon and ligament repair, and gait training with mobility aids to stabilize, protect, and help you return safely to your regular activities.

Skin & Nail Procedures

  • Our experienced podiatrists provide quality care for ingrown toenail removal, callus, corn, and wart treatments, and wound care for diabetic or chronic ulcers.
  • These procedures help relieve pain, prevent infection, and protect long-term foot health, especially for patients at higher risk.

Surgical Interventions

  • When conservative care isn’t enough, we offer advanced surgical interventions.
  • Our specialists perform bunion and hammertoe correction, heel spur or plantar fascia release, and fracture fixation or reconstructive surgery, always focusing on individualized treatment plans and seamless recovery support.

Our podiatric procedures are designed to do more than just ease pain. They’re aimed at restoring mobility, supporting healing, and preventing future problems so you can stay active and confident. Why does my ankle still swell months after a sprain?

It’s common for an ankle to remain swollen for weeks or even months after a sprain. Swelling can linger due to stretched ligaments, ongoing inflammation, or fluid buildup as the ankle heals. Sometimes, repeat minor injuries or incomplete rehabilitation can also delay recovery. A podiatrist can evaluate lingering swelling, rule out hidden damage, and guide proper treatment for lasting relief.

Sharp heel pain when you first step out of bed is often linked to plantar fasciitis, a common condition caused by inflammation of the ligament that supports your arch. Other causes include heel spurs or tendon issues. Symptoms can persist or worsen without care, but seeing a podiatrist can provide an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan.

Foot soreness often fades with rest and feels more generalized. A stress fracture, however, usually causes sharp, pinpoint pain that worsens with activity and may persist even at rest. Swelling or bruising can also occur. If symptoms don’t improve or worsen, it’s important to seek medical evaluation to avoid complications and ensure proper healing.

Not always. Bunion or hammertoe pain that worsens over time can often be managed with non-surgical treatments like custom orthotics, footwear changes, or physical therapy. However, if pain persists or limits your daily activities, surgery may be recommended. A thorough evaluation with a podiatrist can help determine the best path forward for your specific needs.
